42 years of marriage an American romance that begins in an elevator

A few lines carved on the wall of an elevator car at temple university in the United States Wednesday tell the story of a decades-old romance that began in the elevator.

On September 6, 1972, charlene rubin, a woman who had moved to a temple university dorm, met Eric schlesinger, a dorm elevator driver, and fell in love. A few days later, when rubin met schlesinger, he walked over and said, "hi! Mr. Elevator."

They married for more than 42 years, until rubin died last year of colon cancer.

Schlesinger told the Philadelphia inquirer that meeting a "future wife" was his "most important" experience at temple university.

Temple university honored this love by placing a plaque in the elevator car where rubin and schlesinger met, bearing the inscription "in memory of my wife, charlene rubin schlesinger, whom I first met on September 6, 1972. More than 42 years of marriage began with the phrase 'hey! Mr. Elevator, signed by Eric schlesinger
